Tell me about yourself: Robert Stoddart

industry career path.
What made you want to join MRM Global?
Having spent the last fifteen years working under global brands such as Citi, Aldi and Amazon, joining MRM presented me with a fantastic opportunity to use my skills and experience shaping the strategic direction of an ambitious growing business. Having been part of the hugely successful growth at both Aldi and Amazon, I feel well placed to add value as we enter the next phase of MRMs phenomenal growth. I have a passion for operations and the scale of responsibility afforded to me at MRM was hugely appealing.
Describe your career to date prior to joining MRM?
Having studied Finance at University I spent my formative years of employment working in the finance industry with both St James’s Place Wealth Management and Citigroup before leaving the Industry to join Aldi almost ten years ago (just as their incredible growth was about to take off). I spent a hugely enjoyable six and a half years there, working primarily within store operations and property, at regional manager and director level. In 2017 I took the opportunity to switch from bricks and mortar retail into online fulfilment and spent a hugely enjoyable three years with Amazon leading the operational function at one of their largest UK fulfilment centres and main UK customer returns centre.
What do you like the most about your job?
Breadth of responsibility, and the ability to impact the operation and culture of the business going forward. The multitude of exciting growth opportunities we have ahead of us bring with it many unknowns, this fits so well with our company value of Adventure and being excited about stepping into the unknown.
What characteristics do you admire in the team that you work with?
MRM has gone through such enormous change and incredible growth over the last two years that its hard not to have respect and admiration for those that have been working day in day out to deliver on this. The disruptive nature of our service has on the print industry ensures we are always looking for new opportunities to improve our service offering to customers, that strive for perfection exists every day.
What advice would you give to a new employee at MRM Global?
Embrace change, have a continuous improvement mindset, think big, take ownership and adapt to an ever changing environment. Embrace our core values of Adventure, Integrity, Responsibility, Simplicity and most importantly Customer Focus.
What are your passions outside work?
I spend as much time as I can reading (has to be nonfiction), I have a passion for music (although I have no musical ability) and when time permits I enjoy golf and football.
